Dr. Yvonne Codd

Assistant Professor (Occupational Therapy)

Yvonne was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Occupational Therapy in September 2023, with a previous established clinical career as an occupational therapist specialising in the area of rheumatology and enduring health conditions. She holds a PhD., MSc. and BSc Cur Occ (Hons) awarded by Trinity College Dublin. Her work centres on understanding the lived experience of chronic and enduring health conditions: their impact on employment and parenting, and developing occupation-focused interventions that enhance participation in meaningful life roles. Yvonne is building a strong publication and dissemination record, with research featured in Q1 peer-reviewed journals, international conferences, national and international invited talks, and public engagement platforms including podcasts and webinars. Her research aligns closely with UN sustainable development goals related to health and wellbeing, decent work and economic growth, and reducing inequalities. She has demonstrated significant clinical impact through her leadership of the Sláintecare-funded Work-Able Solutions project, which has informed the development of a specialised occupational therapy service model supporting return-to-work for people with arthritis. She is currently embedding ongoing research within this multisite service to further advance applied clinical knowledge. Prior to joining Trinity College Dublin as faculty in 2023, Yvonne held academic and research roles at the University of Limerick, University College Dublin, and the University of Ulster, and worked as a Research Fellow on the CHITIN-funded REfLECTS Study. Her academic leadership now includes supervision of two competitively funded PhD projects focused on parenting and employment among individuals living with chronic conditions. Yvonne serves as the Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead on the National Clinical Programme for Rheumatology and is an active member of the international ot4parenting research group. She continues to champion clinically applied, patient-centred research aimed at improving quality of life for individuals with chronic and enduring health conditions.
