Clinical Senior Lecturer and Clinical Re (Public Health & Primary Care)
John Travers is a clinical senior lecturer and senior research fellow at Trinity College Dublin and a general practitioner in Dublin. He leads research on reversing frailty and building resilience and on interventions to support people experiencing homelessness. He has been the principal investigator for randomised controlled trials, feasibility studies, public and patient involvement, systematic reviews and meta-analysis. He also has an interest in narrative medicine. He completed a PhD with research on building resilience and reversing frailty at UCD, where he also earned honours engineering and medicine degrees. He completed an MBA at Harvard University. He was the founding CEO of international clean energy companies and Chairperson of not-for-profit social enterprises. He has worked as a healthcare volunteer in India, Tanzania, Ghana and Ireland. He has authored over 40 research publications and three books and twice won the Royal College of General Practitioners Sheppard award for medical writing.
