Casey Platnich is an Assistant Professor in Physical Chemistry. Casey's research interests lie at the intersection of single-molecule biophysics and DNA/RNA nanotechnology. The Platnich Lab leverages ideas from these two fields to develop new, quantitative biosensing modalities with low detection limits, for example for RNA viruses.

My main research interest is bringing biosensing down to the ultimate resolution of a single-molecule. The key modalities of my research group are solid-state nanopore sensing and single-molecule fluorescence microscopy. Capitalising on the self-assembly properties of DNA and RNA, I make unique nanoscale topologies capable of directly detecting biomolecules of interest, with single-molecule readout.
