The aim of this project is to develop and test a care pathway for best-practice integration of palliative care into Irish ICUs. This study will be a quasi-experimental mixed-method study. In collaboration with key-stakeholders, a care pathway will be developed and integrated into ICU. Outcome measures will assess pre-post frequencies of palliative service, care process and procedures received, including bed days and related costs. Focus groups with multi-stakeholders will seek opinions on workload challenges, ease of pathway use, acceptance of pathway and unexpected re-occurring issues.
