Dr. David Robert Grimes

Assistant Professor (Public Health & Primary Care)

My expertise is in modelling problems in biomedical science and public health, cancer science, meta-research, research methodology, statistics, and health systems. I research and consult on population health, oncology, medical statistics, public health, tumour models, and have extensive experience in data analysis, statistics, and imaging. I also have expertise in societal understanding of science and medicine, writing, and broadcasting, as well as experience in health policy, screening programmes, health disinformation. I advise for media outlets around the world on communication of science, and consult on disinformation for various bodies worldwide. Aside from this, I am an author and broadcaster. My first book, the "The Irrational Ape - Why we fall for conspiracy theory, disinformation, and propaganda" (Simon & Schuster UK, US title: "Good Thinking - Why Flawed Logic Puts us all at Risk and How Critical Thinking Can Save the World) was an Irish Times top 5 bestseller. I contribute to outlets including the Guardian, New York Times, Scientific American, the Atlantic, The Observer, the Irish Times, and many others, and broadcast with BBC, RTE, PBS, and many others worldwide on radio and television, and am an elected fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.
