Project Title
Measuring the Impact of Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN) on Overall Health, Well-Being, and Productivity
From
13th January 2025
To
30th December 2026
Summary
This study aims to comprehensively measure the impact of MPNs on various aspects of life, including quality of life, disease burden, activities of daily living, and work productivity. In doing so we will identify gaps and unmet needs. Aims: To assess the impact of MPNs on patients' quality of life using validated instruments such as EQ-5D-5L and MPN-SAF questionnaires to assess their health-related quality of life. We will analyze the data to identify key factors associated with lower quality of life in MPN patients. To quantify the disease burden of MPNs in terms of physical, psychological, and financial aspects. To evaluate the effect of MPNs on patients' ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). To measure the impact of MPNs on work productivity and employment status using tools such as the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire (WPAI).

Project Title
Education Needs of Specialist Palliative Care Nurses Caring for Patients with Haematological Malignancies
From
1st June 2025
To
1st June 2026
Summary
The project "Education Needs of Palliative Care Nurses Working with Patients with Haematological Malignancies" aims to identify and address educational gaps in specialist palliative care nursing. Patients with haematological malignancies (e.g., leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma) often have complex and unique palliative care needs, yet nurses may lack targeted training to effectively manage their physical, psychological, and emotional challenges. This research will use a mixed-methods approach, including an all-Ireland survey and semi-structured interviews with palliative care nurses, to assess knowledge gaps, training priorities, and professional challenges in this field. The findings will inform future educational interventions, contribute to evidence-based nursing education, and support the development of improved care models for patients with blood cancers. By strengthening nurse training and professional development, this project aims to enhance palliative care delivery, improve patient outcomes, and support workforce planning in Ireland"s specialist palliative care services.
