Biography

I was born in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic). I am a graduate of Palacký University, Olomouc (Czech Republic), where I completed a BA & MA in Czech Philology, and a BA & MA in English Philology; and of University College Dublin, where I was awarded a PhD in Anglo-Irish Literature (in 2011). My doctoral thesis was a comparative study of Literary Censorship in Ireland and Czechoslovakia.

Research Interests

Description Of Research Interests

My main area of expertise lies in twentieth-century literature and culture, mainly Czech and Irish, but also British and (Soviet) Russian. I am particularly interested in the subject of literary and other censorship, as well as the relationship between literature and society. My research work has been largely comparative, focused primarily on the post-independence Czech (Czechoslovak) and Irish contexts. Recently I have also been working on expanding my scope by exploring the related cultural territories of the Soviet Union and Great Britain. In addition, I am interested in the politics of translation. As a trained philologist, I also teach Czech Language courses at the Department.
